Here Is to Starting Close In

Dear Reader,

And the wheel keeps turning…

A new year stands before you—
the next chapter in the book of your life, waiting to be written.

As you stand at the threshold of this blank page, I invite you to choose a life that truly inspires you.

To slow down long enough to listen.

To turn toward what lives within you, and to allow yourself to be guided by the deeper wisdom already at work—quietly shaping who you are becoming.

Rather than rushing toward resolution or reinvention, I invite you to pause.

To listen for what is already stirring beneath the surface.

To gently loosen your grip on what is “reasonable” or “expected,” and instead follow the subtle pull of your own longing—beginning to shape a life that feels honest, alive, and true.

So many try to change their lives by rearranging what is visible, moving pieces around on the surface.

But this is an invitation into something deeper.

An invitation to stop circling the edges of who you really are and what you came here to do—and instead, to turn inward.

My wish for you is that you have the courage to live from that deeper place.
To align with what feels most true in you.
To begin living the life that has been quietly asking for your attention all along.

Remember: we are always evolving, always unfolding.
There is no true beginning and no true end—only turning, cycling, and returning.

Again and again, we are invited back to ourselves.

I offer you this poem by David Whyte, which beautifully captures the essence of this invitation.

Here is to starting close in.

Start Close In

Start close in,

don't take the second step

or the third,

start with the first

thing

close in,

the step you don't want to take.

Start with

the ground

you know,

the pale ground

beneath your feet,

your own

way to begin

the conversation.

Start with your own

question,

give up on other

people's questions,

don't let them

smother something

simple.

To hear

another's voice,

follow

your own voice,

wait until

that voice

becomes an

intimate private ear

that can

really listen

to another.

Start right now

take a small step

you can call your own

don't follow

someone else's

heroics, be humble

and focused,

start close in,

don't mistake

that other

for your own.

Start close in,

don't take

the second step

or the third,

start with the first

thing

close in,

the step you don't want to take.

I want to hear from you:

As I begin to listen for what wants to be created next year, I want to hear from you.

If I could offer you something in 2026 that would genuinely support you, what would it be?

You can reply to this email or send me a message and reflect on any of the following:

  • What kind of support are you craving right now?
  • What feels hardest to hold alone?
  • What would feel nourishing rather than overwhelming?
  • Do you want community, guidance, ritual, structure, rest, embodiment, clarity, or something else entirely?
  • What would make you feel more resourced, grounded, and sovereign?

Your answers will help shape what I offer next—and I would be honored to receive them.

With much love and blessing and always with you on the journey,

Teresa

Dear Reader I wanted to share something a little special with you today. My conversation on the Let Go and Let’s Go podcast was just released, and I have to be honest — listening back to it felt tender. There is something vulnerable about hearing yourself tell pieces of your own story out loud. In the episode, Liliana and I talked about somatic work, women’s circles, embodiment, and the journey of coming back to yourself. But really, the heart of the conversation was about the woman who has...

Reader There’s a moment when something shifts. You start to notice the places where you’ve been saying yes when your body means no.Where you’ve been staying quiet to keep the peace.Where belonging has quietly required you to leave parts of yourself behind. And once you see it—you can’t unsee it. In my last letter, I spoke about the invisible weight so many of us carry. The systems that shape us—patriarchy, colonialism, capitalism, conditioning—and how they don’t just live “out there,” but...

I just started sharing these letters on Substack. If you prefer reading there (and want to support my work), you can subscribe here. Reader For most of my life I carried a weight I couldn't explain. I had done many years of therapy and personal transformation work. Twenty years of it. And still something felt off. Like I was missing a piece of myself I couldn't quite find. Maybe you know that feeling too... That sense that no matter how much work you do on yourself, something larger is still...
