A different way of belonging

Reader

There’s a moment when something shifts.

You start to notice the places where you’ve been saying yes when your body means no.
Where you’ve been staying quiet to keep the peace.
Where belonging has quietly required you to leave parts of yourself behind.

And once you see it—you can’t unsee it.

In my last letter, I spoke about the invisible weight so many of us carry.
The systems that shape us—patriarchy, colonialism, capitalism, conditioning—and how they don’t just live “out there,” but inside our bodies, our beliefs, our sense of self.

If something in that landed for you, I want you to hear this clearly:

You are not imagining it.
You are not alone.

There is a reason you feel the way you feel.

Five years ago, when I was naming my work, two words came to me in a dream:

Rising Sovereign.

At the time, I didn’t fully understand them.
I just knew they mattered.

What I’ve come to understand since is this:

Sovereignty has nothing to do with control, power, or standing above others.

It’s something far more intimate than that.

It’s about belonging to yourself.

Somewhere along the way, most of us lost trust in our own knowing.

We learned to look outside ourselves:
to teachers, experts, authority figures—
for answers we were never taught to trust within.

And slowly, without even noticing, we stopped listening to ourselves.

Sovereignty, to me, is the return.

Sovereignty is a deep, living relationship with yourself.

With your body.
Your truth.
Your emotions.
Your intuition.
Your spirit.

It includes all of you—the messy, the tender, the powerful, the unsure.

It’s not something you earn.

It’s something you remember.

And when a woman begins to live this way, something changes.

  • She stops participating in what feels false.
  • She can no longer tolerate belonging that requires self-abandonment.
  • She feels it in her body when something is off—and she listens.
  • She stops performing positivity and starts telling the truth.
  • She moves from her own inner authority, not someone else’s expectations.
  • She lets go of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and over-functioning as identity.

She may still slip into old patterns.

But she knows what it feels like to stay with herself.

And that changes everything.

This is why sovereignty is quietly revolutionary.

Because the systems we’ve been shaped by depend on our disconnection.
They rely on us doubting ourselves.
On us outsourcing our authority.

A woman who belongs to herself becomes harder to control.
Harder to manipulate.
Harder to silence.

And when she changes, things around her begin to change too.

Not all at once.
Not loudly.

But steadily.

In how she parents.
How she works.
How she relates.
How she chooses.

These are the quiet revolutions that reshape the world.

This is the work I care about.

Not fixing you.
Not upgrading you.
Not turning you into someone better.

But creating spaces where you can remember who you already are.

Where your body is welcome.
Where your emotions have room.
Where you are witnessed instead of analyzed.

Where you can begin to belong to yourself again.

If something in you stirred while reading this, I want you to pay attention to that.

That feeling—
the pull, the recognition, the quiet yes—

that’s not random.

That’s your sovereignty speaking.

And it knows exactly where it wants to go.

If you want to sit with this more deeply, I’ve shared a longer version of this reflection on Substack.

I’d love to hear from you.

Where in your life are you still abandoning yourself to belong?

Hit reply and tell me. I read every response.

With love,

Teresa

Dear Reader I wanted to share something a little special with you today. My conversation on the Let Go and Let’s Go podcast was just released, and I have to be honest — listening back to it felt tender. There is something vulnerable about hearing yourself tell pieces of your own story out loud. In the episode, Liliana and I talked about somatic work, women’s circles, embodiment, and the journey of coming back to yourself. But really, the heart of the conversation was about the woman who has...

I just started sharing these letters on Substack. If you prefer reading there (and want to support my work), you can subscribe here. Reader For most of my life I carried a weight I couldn't explain. I had done many years of therapy and personal transformation work. Twenty years of it. And still something felt off. Like I was missing a piece of myself I couldn't quite find. Maybe you know that feeling too... That sense that no matter how much work you do on yourself, something larger is still...

Reader In my last email I shared something personal. About slowing down. About shedding. About choosing to stop chasing shiny objects and listen more deeply instead. What I didn't tell you was what happened that caused that to open up for me. I was coming off a year-long training program. One that promised something different — feminine leadership, and a more conscious way of working. But what I discovered was that it wasn't feminine leadership at all. It was the same extractive model dressed...
